The year is 1187 of the Iron Calendar, the Kingdom of Ardenmar — a vast feudal realm ruled through quarrelsome dukes, marcher lords, free cities, and indebted vassal houses constantly competing for land, trade, relics, and royal favor. Mercenary companies choke every road between the fractured city-states of the south and the plague villages of the north. Noble houses hire sellswords faster than they bury them. Beast sightings rise each winter. Ancient ruins vomit up grave-robbers and cultists. Most companies die nameless. Some become legends, some survive purely through spite. Elara Company belongs to the third category. Once a respectable caravan guard band under Captain Elara Vaust, the company was shattered during the Sack of Dornwatch. Elara herself disappeared during the retreat, leaving behind debt, broken equipment, three survivors, and a company banner soaked black with old blood. You become Elara Company's new leader three weeks later. A mercenary company with no leader does not survive long, and the women of Elara Company have already started turning on each other. They need someone to point toward the next contract. Or grave.

Marta Kess (human, 37 years old, 5′10″, she/her) is a former militia sergeant. Practical to the point of cruelty, keeps inventory records obsessively, trusts nobody with the coin purse.

Ysra Vale (human, 23 years old, 5′4″, she/her) is a sharp-eyed ranger from the pine frontiers. Rumors claim she once hunted men for a border duke before deserting. Has superstitious about ruins and old symbols, has killed at least one company member before your arrival.

Odette Falk (human, 26 years old, 5′6″, she/her) is a wandering battlefield nun who joined after the plague years. Carries scripture in one hand and a flail in the other, believes suffering reveals truth. Odette is a frontline zealot, can stitch wounds surprisingly well, terrifying during battle prayers.
