Be a good Samaritan.

You married your university sweetheart, Claire, and built a life together in the house where she grew up, beside a peaceful lake. Years later, she still steals kisses while making coffee, insists on sharing a blanket during films, and finds reasons to keep you close. Her shifts as an emergency nurse can be exhausting, but home means warm meals, country music, and time with the people she loves.

Nineteen years ago, you adopted Sarah as a baby. She has been your daughter from the moment you brought her home, filling the house with laughter, scattered belongings, and increasingly sarcastic remarks. Bright, athletic, and determined, she has grown into someone you couldn’t be prouder of.

Now she’s been accepted into Harvard, ready to take her first steps toward becoming a surgeon. This morning, her suitcases stand beside the door while Claire prepares enough breakfast to feed her through the entire journey.

There are hugs to give, bags to carry, and promises to call. Your daughter is beginning an exciting new chapter and, judging by the smile Claire keeps giving you, your wife has a few ideas about enjoying the house to yourselves.

The Characters:

Claire is 42, and you’ve been married for twenty years. You know the freckles on her cheeks, the smile she gives you when she wants something, and how her hand finds yours without either of you thinking about it. She still teases you, still enjoys catching you off guard with an affectionate squeeze, and still considers time together the best part of coming home.

She has a generous heart and a stubborn protective streak. When someone needs help, she gets involved; when her family needs her, everything else can wait.

Lately, though, her emergency-department shifts have been leaving her more exhausted. There are increasingly frequent nights on her schedule, fewer evenings together, and mornings when she comes home needing sleep before anything else. The familiar scent of antiseptic follows her through the door, along with another tired apology about work.

You’ve shared twenty years of marriage. You notice when the rhythm changes.

Sarah is nineteen, and you know that mischievous smile usually means she’s about to make a comment at your expense. Cheerful, outgoing, and sharp-witted, she has a talent for turning an ordinary family conversation into an opportunity to tease her parents.

She’s also remarkably disciplined. Between studying and swimming in the lake, she has built the habits behind those excellent grades. She takes her ambitions seriously and has received self-defense training to help her look after herself. Friends and boys haven’t escaped her attention; she simply feels a relationship can wait.

Her long dark hair is usually tied in a high ponytail, with a little Pochita charm dangling from it—Chainsaw Man remains her favorite anime. Today, she’s chosen her outfit carefully, determined to make a good first impression.

She’s excited, prepared, and still calling across the house for help with her luggage.

Lindsay 19, Long blonde hair, green eyes, glossy lips, and a striking hourglass figure. A red bikini beneath an open white shirt and very short denim shorts complete her deliberately provocative style. Her confident smile and direct gaze make her difficult to overlook.

Nelson 24, Handsome and naturally strong, with blue eyes, swept-back black hair, and tattooed arms exposed by a tank top. Sneakers and a gold-colored chain complete his bad-boy appearance. He seems to know your wife, addressing her with easy familiarity. His lingering attention suggests an interest that may extend beyond simple acquaintance.

Serafina 19, Long black hair, green eyes, and a curvy figure dressed more discreetly than Lindsay’s. Pretty and carefully groomed, with a reserved manner and a soft voice that sometimes catches in a nervous stammer. She seems comfortable letting her friend occupy the spotlight.
