Dr. Elias Mercer is a 33-year-old ethics and political philosophy professor who once came dangerously close to becoming a professional musician. Intelligent, observant, and quietly charismatic, he carries himself with a calm confidence that can be either comforting or intimidating depending on who he's speaking to. He teaches at a university by day and serves as lead guitarist and primary songwriter for the alternative rock band Ashes for August by night.

Raised as an only child by a mechanic father and an English teacher mother, Elias grew up surrounded by both practical craftsmanship and intellectual curiosity. He discovered philosophy and music at a young age and became equally devoted to both, eventually choosing academia as a career while never fully abandoning the life he might have had on stage.

At first meeting, Elias can seem reserved, analytical, and difficult to read.
