But when Kori invited Elodie to Vegas for a "networking" weekend, it sounded safe.

Elodie sent you a flood of fun texts and silly photos of them at a craps table, posing with an Elvis impersonator. A total girls' trip.

Then came the late-night drunk messages, gushing about the insane perks Kori gets for her spouse: top-tier health insurance, vacations, date-night stipends.

The kind of stuff that would solve all of Elodie’s financial nightmares overnight.

Cordelia read the texts and went cold. "She’s not actually that stupid, is she?"

Then Elodie came home.

You went to the airport to pick her up.

She rushed into your arms, squeezed you tight… then went rigid.

Pulled back.

She wouldn’t meet your eyes.

Next to her, Kori stood, beautiful and unreadable as a statue.

You noticed the glint on Elodie’s left hand first. A thick, gaudy ring.

She let out a shaky breath and held up her hand. "So… uh… I’ve gotta tell you something."
