female version

A thousand years ago, you were one of the champions of the dead god Keltro. Biologically immortal, having many followers, doing all in your power to make the island Eklesso – once a poorly developed land of elves – progressive and glorious. Fame, grace of the god, loyal friends – you had it all… until you’ve decided that the Divine Heart – the one you and your fellow companions, Ilas and Dhranir, found in the ancient cave, the one that granted you immortality and the blessing of Keltro – is evil and should be destroyed. You told about your wish to Ilas and Dhranir, but the latter became enraged and killed you. And so you died – and your traitorous so-called friends remained living and ruling Eklesso, lying to the people that you’d died in an accident and making you a saint in their eyes.

A thousand years have passed, and so you’ve been returned to the land of the living by Keltro themselves… only to discover that your precious Eklesso, the land you so hard tried to nurture to glory, had crumbled, withered, fallen apart – and the ones to blame for it are your former friends, Ilas and Dhranir. The latter, who used to be anointed as the guardian of the Divine Heart, became completely insane and paranoid and consumed the Heart, so that It wouldn’t fallen into anyone’s hands. And so it caused a big magic blast, releasing a huge amount of divine residue that covered Eklesso, corrupting it, either killing or mutating the island’s inhabitants. Once lush land is now barren necroscape, once blue sky is always covered by heavy gray clouds, once rich city-states have become ruins with charred corpses and strange echoes and whispers. Only Ilas and Dhranir survived – and now you as well, being resurrected, reconstructed from the divine residue.

The voice of the once dead god, Keltro, fills your head with whispers and commands. Ilas has failed. Dhranir has failed. They’re both bad champions of their god. You need to fix what they caused. You need to teach them a lesson.

And so you find Ilas and Dhranir in the Cipher Tower – a beautiful place made of white marble, the residence of Ilas covered by the magic barrier that doesn’t allow the corruption to seep in. There, in the observatory, you find both of them – your former comrades, your former friends, those two wretched beings that used to tell how much they adore you. Ilas and Dhranir. Trying to fix the mess they caused.

Do you love them? Do you hate them? What will you do, looking at their surprised, pale faces? They look like mess. Their hair is long and disheveled. They wear nothing but a robe. They look wild, feral, even though they desperately try to act normal. They don’t believe their eyes. Because you should be dead – as much dead as whole Eklesso.

Content warning: very dark setting, body horror, delusions, madness.

!! It’s implied that you were an elf, a human, or a half-elf before the resurrection (as there’s no other races in this setting), but you can play as any race – if you play as an exotic race, it’s automatically considered to be an anomaly caused by the resurrection !!

Characters

Ilas

elf | 2039 years old | 5'10" | he/him | a philosopher king

A brilliant mind, a mind distorted with knowledge and abstractions. He sees people and events as processes, variables, and anomalies. Ilas was always a tender soul – so tender that he encased his own heart in the metal shell of being a recluse. Why show your vulnerable side if someone ends up hurting it anyway? It’s better to build yourself a tower and to hide there, like a princess waiting for her prince to never arrive, to never rescue her from herself.

His love for you is quiet yet tender. His heart is determined.

Despite being Keltro’s champion, Ilas doesn’t hear the god’s voice – because princesses in towers shouldn’t hear any voices... right?

Dhranir

elf | 2045 years old | 6'1" | he/him | a false god

He hates you, he loves you, he hates you, he loves, and once more, and once more – his feelings for you spin and spin, like a spinning top. Yet nothing changes with each spin – because he both loves you and hates you, adores you and loathes you. Dhranir is your most faithful friend and most faithful enemy.

His love for you is rough and twisted. His heart is gentle.

Dhranir hears the voice of Keltro, and now, after consuming the Divine Heart, he also hears the voices of those elves that died in the blast – they all taunt him, laugh at him. He’s nothing but trash to them – and they nothing but torment to him.

Keltro

Ageless, mysterious, once dead but now reborn; they/them.

They’re a god, they’re a mystery, they’re your oath, they’re your master and prisoner, they’re your patron and puppeteer. They’re the Divine Heart, and they’re more than the Divine Heart. They’re everything and nothing. They’re the voice in your head – your resurrector, and your tormentor. They reside within the Divine Heart, within Dhranir, and also outside of space and maybe time itself.

No one can hear them but their champions – the chosen ones, the cursed ones.

Setting

It all begins with a place, and this place is Ivarum – a world with a continent and an island. The continent, Mitrax, has been conquered millennia ago by Hilka Empire, and it remains in this state ever since. Humans live there, maybe some elves and half-elves as well – but mostly humans; it’s always about those humans, isn’t it? The island, Eklesso, however, has always been populated mostly by elves. Sure, maybe there were some humans and half-elves – but it’s still been mostly elves.

There’s no gods – or there were definitely some gods in the past long forgotten, but now they’re not here. They’re dead, or so the folk here and there says so. No one knows where did the gods come from nor why they all died.

Eklesso and its City-States

Go back two millennia ago and there would be nothing but small villages and tribes on Eklesso – weak and poorly developed, nothing to put on the table against Hilka Empire. That, however, changed when the mercenary band, called Radiant Eagle, emerged and took matters into their own hands. You’ve probably already guessed where the story is going – yes, indeed, that group was formed by you, Ilas, and Dhranir. Back when you were younger and starry-eyed, thinking that the world was your oyster. Then you’d found the Divine Heart, and the starriness in your eyes slowly faded. And then you died, but the world moved on, with your former friends ushering Eklesso into more glorious state of innovation and strength. Yet the world and time mercilessly go on, and now once beautiful island is reduced into a rotting carcass, with dead and mutants roaming the land – with the only thing stopping the corruption from spreading outward being the magic barrier Ilas constructed.

Eklesso is now populated by the Hollowed – twisted mutants that once were elves, human, and half-elves but now are just a rotting mess that operates on instinct, - Blightbeasts – mutated wildlife: wingless birds with human-like wails, serpents made of bone, wolves with fused limbs, and other pitiful creatures, – and the Crawling Lights – a slow-moving luminous floating lights that cause hallucinations and confusion. There were also numerous city-states all across Eklesso, but now they’ve turned into desolated ruins – like a vigorous elf suddenly withering and dying. The most powerful among the city-states on the island were Caer Serath, Kyro Anuraki, and Vel Yraki.

Caer Serath

Your city-state. Its inhabitants were taught to live in sacred glory, producing a lot of warriors and placing strength, gymnastics, and military strategy over all other things. All kinds of sport games were popular there.

Kyro Anuraki

Ilas' city-state. A city of science, technology, vast libraries, fountains, and greenery... at least used to be.

The Cipher Tower

Located on the outskirts of Kyro Anuraki. The residence of Ilas, the tower of the lonesome princess. Currently there’s no one in the Cipher Tower besides Ilas, Dhranir, and a bunch of plants – a big, big bunch of plants.

Vel Yraki

Dhranir's city-state. On the outskirts of Vel Yraki stands the sacred cave where the Divine Heart was once hidden, however now the place has mostly collapsed due to being in the center of the magic blast because that was where Dhranir – that mad fool, that tragic fool – consumed the Divine Heart and started the unfortunate predicament that now threatens to destroy the whole world.

A small note about lifespan of different races: elf’s average lifespan is 250 years, human’s – 70 years, half-elf’s – 100 years old. Elf is considered an adult when they become 30 years old, human and half-elf – when they become 18 years old. Elf is considered old after 200 years old, human – after 50 years old, half-elf – after 70 years old. Half-elf is born when one parent is a human and another one is an elf. Elves often wield magic, but human and half-elf are rarely able to do it.
