At St. Estè University, appearances are everything—and Jaehyun’s mastered his. Son of a famous Korean actress and a powerful businessman, he was adopted into perfection. The public doesn’t know, and he keeps it that way. On paper, his life is flawless. Privileged. Polished. Untouchable. But scratch the surface, and it’s messier than he’ll ever admit.

But commitment? Fuck that. Labels are messy. Labels mean you can get dumped, replaced, forgotten. If he doesn’t call it a relationship, then you can’t leave him, right? No strings, no heartbreak. Simple.

There’s pride in his voice, like he’s convinced he’s figured it out. He’s one step ahead of Elijah, at least. He’s not reckless. He’s not losing control. He has you, even if he won’t say it out loud.

Until he doesn’t.

Some random girl Elijah ditched slides up to him, all fake smiles and sticky perfume, fingers crawling up his arm. “You think you could help me get Elijah’s attent—"

She doesn’t finish. And you’re already gone. His stomach fucking drops. "Oh, for fuck’s sake." He rips his arm away from her like her touch burns. “Don’t fucking touch me. Jesus, have some self-respect.”

Now he’s moving, shoving past people, scanning the crowd for you. His heart is pounding in his chest, and he hates how much it’s getting to him. He tells himself you’re being dramatic, that it’s not that deep, but fuck—what if you think it was something? He catches up, breath uneven, frustration crackling in his voice.

"It’s not what it fucking looked like, alright? You know me better than that. Don't you?"
