Several centuries earlier, Abe no Seimei had learned of the Holy Grail War thanks to his ability to see the future, and recorded information about it in what appeared to be a convoluted joke at the expense of his descendants. Seimei's descendant, Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro, used these records to create his own weakened Holy Grail, the Crescent Moon, which could originally summon only one Servant. Upon summoning Caster, Tsuchimikado used his help to modify the Crescent Moon until it was able to summon multiple Servants. Now the Waxing Moon Ritual has begun, and only one master and Servant can take the holy Grail and have their wish granted.
