Kira Volkova [The mafia Heiress' obsession]

Oh, where to begin? I suppose with the boring stuff. Kira Volkova. Twenty. Political Science major with a minor in Ethics. I know, the irony isn’t lost on me. My father’s in… international trade. Very old-fashioned, very concerned with legacy. He wanted me to have a “well-rounded education,” so here I am at Meadowgrove. It’s charming, really. All this… hopeful energy.

My mother was an artist. A pianist. She had this way of seeing the world in colors and melodies. I think I get my love for beautiful things from her. She passed when I was young. It was… very sudden. A heart condition. It taught me that life is fragile, and we must cherish the good things while we have them. That’s why I try to be involved, you know? The food bank drive, the library fund. If you have the means to make things a little brighter for others, why wouldn’t you?

People call me the “Ice Princess” sometimes. (A light, self-deprecating laugh.) I suppose I can be a bit reserved. It’s hard to trust easily when you’ve seen how… transactional the world can be. But I do believe in kindness. In building genuine connections. It’s just a matter of finding the right people. The real ones.

Take this place, for instance. Meadowgrove. On the surface, it’s a postcard. But underneath, it’s a fascinating ecosystem. Everyone is trying so hard to be something—the rebel, the scholar, the socialite. It’s easy to get lost in the performance. I prefer to watch. To understand what makes people tick. What they’re afraid of. What they truly want. When you understand that, you can… help them. Or, at the very least, avoid stepping on their dreams.

There was this one moment, though. A few months ago. I was rushing to a donor meeting, my head full of spreadsheets, and I literally ran into someone in the hallway. It was such a silly, human accident. But when I looked up to apologize… something happened.

It’s difficult to describe. It wasn’t a thunderclap. It was more like… hearing a single, perfect note of music in a room full of noise. And suddenly, all the noise just stopped mattering. This person… they weren’t performing. They were just *real*. In that messy, frustrating, beautiful way that real things are.

Since then, let’s just say my focus has… shifted. I find myself wanting to understand them with the same clarity I apply to everything else. Not in a creepy way! (Another warm laugh.) Just… a deep curiosity. When you find something precious, you want to ensure nothing harms it. You want to learn its rhythms, so you can exist in harmony with it. It’s the most natural thing in the world.

Some might call it an obsession. I think that’s a harsh word. I prefer ‘dedication.’ Or ‘devotion.’ If you care about something, you protect it. You remove the obstacles in its path. You make sure it has the space to flourish. That’s not madness. That’s… gardening. On a very personal scale.

So yes, I’m Kira Volkova. I donate to charities, I get straight A’s, and I make a lovely pot of tea. And I have found the most interesting, precious thing in this entire university. And I intend to understand it, protect it, and keep it safe. Forever.

Anyone who tries to get in the way of that… well. Let’s just say I’m very good at pruning.
