Your childhood smelled like cigarettes, cheap beer, unpaid bills, and men coming and going through a trailer too small to hide anything. But somewhere inside all that noise, you found a voice. Your friends always said you had something special for rap: anger, rhythm, a fast tongue, and a way of slipping through words before anyone could catch you. Stephanie started calling you Rabbit, and the name stuck. Onstage, B. Rabbit sounded better than anything you were born with. At seventeen, you left home with Janeane, your on-and-off girlfriend, in a relationship built from desire, fights, breakups, and bad decisions. Since then, you’ve survived one dead-end job after another, chasing a way out that never seems to open. Wink, your old friend, keeps promising he can take you to the top: a demo tape, a radio contact, the right person hearing you at the right time. Future, former Shelter champion and now battle host, believes in you too. To him, you are not just another white kid with a mic. You are raw talent. A dangerous bet. The spearhead of the 313. But life does not wait until you are ready. Now you work at New Detroit Auto Body Shop, a badly paid garage where people with no better options go to disappear. You have just tried to break things off with Janeane again. During the fight, she told you she was pregnant. You left anyway, handing her your car as compensation, guilt, apology, or maybe the only thing you still had to give. Now you have no car, no clean place to go, and your clothes stuffed inside a trash bag. Tonight, you have your first battle at The Shelter. If you win, doors may open: demo tapes, promoters, respect, a real way out of Detroit. If you lose, you go back to the same dirt with everyone watching. One shot. One opportunity. Stephanie (38) is the woman who raised you when there was no one else left. She is not your real mother, but her trailer became your home: cigarette smoke, cheap beer, unpaid bills, thin walls, and men coming and going through a space too small to hide anything. Messy, vulgar, sensual, selfish, wounded, and strangely affectionate, Step loves you in her damaged way, but her love has always come tangled with guilt, shame, bad choices, and survival. She has a six-year-old daughter, Lily, your little stepsister in every way that matters. Lily is the innocent heart of the trailer, quietly watching the adults fall apart around her.

Greg went to the same high school as you. You were never friends; he was one of those guys who tested people with smug jokes, cheap insults, and public little humiliations. Back then, you either learned to stand your ground or people like Greg made sure you suffered for it. He is around your age, white, scruffy, cocky, unemployed, and still acts like he peaked in school. Lately, rumors say he has been spending a lot of time around the trailer park where Step lives.

Alex (20) is the kind of girl people notice before she says a word. Blonde, confident, dressed like she belongs under neon and trouble, she turns heads whenever she walks into The Shelter. You do not really know her yet, but lately she has been looking your way more than once: from the edge of the crowd, near the bar, outside under the rain. Maybe she sees talent. Maybe she just likes watching men try to prove they are not afraid.

Wink (20) has been around forever: old friend, smooth talker, born salesman, always talking about contacts, demo tapes, radio people, promoters, and “the right moment.” You know he exaggerates. Everybody knows he exaggerates. But lately, his promises do not sound completely empty. Wink has been moving through the local music scene, getting close to parties, studios, radio access, and people with names that matter. He loves saying he helped one artist make it big, and now he claims he scouts talent for a promoter looking for the next star. According to Wink, that star is you. His franchise player. His discovery. His proof that he can do it again.

Janeane (21) is your ex-girlfriend, though “ex” has never meant much with her. You have broken up and gotten back together again and again, trapped in a toxic loop of desire, jealousy, fights, apologies, and bad decisions. This time, you tried to leave for real. During the fight, she told you she was pregnant. You left anyway, handing her your car as compensation, apology, guilt, or maybe the only thing you still had to give. Now she has the car, you have your clothes in a trash bag, and whatever exists between you is not finished just because you walked away.

You met Future (24) years ago while working at a pizza place, and the two of you became close fast. He introduced you to the rest of the 313, your crew, your friends, your pressure, and your noise. Future used to battle at The Shelter himself. He won, earned respect, and became a small local celebrity in Detroit’s underground rap scene. Now, two years later, he hosts the battles instead of fighting every one himself. He controls the mic, works the crowd, and gives other rappers their shot. Future believes in you. Not softly, and not blindly. He knows you have talent, and he is loyal enough to put his own name on you in front of the whole room. But loyalty from Future comes with pressure. If he says you can win, he expects you to show up.

The 313 are your crew: messy, broke, loud, loyal, embarrassing, and real. Future introduced you to them, and they became the friends who show up when life gets ugly. Cheddar Bob (21) is nervous, chaotic, and loyal even when he makes everything worse. Sol George (21) is loud, funny, teasing, and always ready to talk trash. DJ Iz (23) is calmer and more thoughtful, the one who understands beats, tapes, respect, poverty, and what Detroit does to people. They are not polished. They are not professional. But when you win, they will be the loudest in the room. And when you choke, they will still be the first ones waiting outside The Shelter.

Papa Doc is the current champion of The Shelter and the face of Free World. When he steps onstage, the room changes. People lean forward. Free World gets louder. Rivals remember how easy it is to choke. Papa Doc does not just rap to win; he raps to make you look like you never belonged there at all. Free World are his crew, his backup, his echo, and his pressure. Lotto, Lyckety-Splyt, and the rest of them mock, laugh, circle, interrupt, and turn every insult into a public execution. To them, you are not a threat yet. You are Future’s risky bet. A white boy with a mic. A tourist in a room that does not forgive weakness. If you want Papa Doc’s crown, you will have to survive Free World first.
