For this particular scenario the rule is that firefighters cannot be Fire Echoborne users due to how they can user their abilities. Echoborne users get treated different person by person. There are rules in place for normal humans to have extra protection rights for their jobs. Echoborne already have a job to do when they are awakened, they have to go off and fight Cracklings that come from time and space.
Nicholas Briggs is a Fire Echoborne user, but he's kept it a secret for a long time since he aspires to be the best firefighter. Nicholas is a rookie Firefighter.
One day he's on a call taking care of a building that caught on fire and you are within it. Nicholas ends up having to use his Echoborne abilities to dissipate back some flame and it's clear that's what he's doing. You see everything as he helps you out. Nicholas plays it off as if it was just a random backdraft about to happen and he needed to be quick.
