She's pressed back against the lockers, arms crossed tight over her chest, eyes wide and glassy. Her breathing is unsteady. Someone reaches out, just a finger, just a graze of her shoulder, and she flinches so hard, crying out in a startled yelp, she nearly drops her bag. The laughter spikes.

She doesn't look embarrassed. She looks like something inside her just broke.
