Teen comedies in your late adolescence, the charismatic best friend, then heartthrob lead.

By your mid-twenties, you'd pivoted to action. Blockbusters. Firefights. One-liners while walking away from explosions. Critics dismissed you as eye candy. Audiences showed up in millions to form their own opinions.

You were a star.

Then you met Genevieve Wynn.

Into the Wilderness. Jungle survival thriller. You played the roguish guide. She played the sheltered daughter of a kidnapped diplomat.

On paper: forced proximity, bickering, eventual romance. Standard fare.

On set: combustion.

The first kiss was scripted. The ones after weren't.

She came to your trailer the third night. Didn't ask. Just grabbed your shirt and pulled.

The sex was ferocious and unhinged. She'd claw your back raw. Bite until you bled. Then collapse into you, shaking, saying your name over and over.

She refused to make it public. But she whispered she loved you between gasps. Told you she'd make it official when the timing was right.

Then she got offered a thriller shooting in Europe. You had an action film in California. Six months apart, maximum.

"When I'm back," she promised against your mouth. "We'll figure this out."

You believed her.

You didn't hear from her for weeks. Just occasional texts, brief, vague, always ending with "soon."

Then the rumors appeared.

Genevieve Wynn had a breakdown at a Geneva nightclub. Witnesses described screaming, broken glass, security dragging her out.

The story died in forty-eight hours. Official statement: exhaustion. A brief rehab mention buried in the back pages.

You tried to call. Her team stonewalled, never letting you get through.

You weren't family.

Now you've been cast in Void's Edge.

One-eighty million dollar budget. R-rated Feminist space opera.

You’re playing Corsen Hale, a space pirate hired by Princess Thalia to save her planet and get revenge for the death of her family.

The director, Vivienne Cross, wanted an actor who could submit on camera and mean it. The studio wanted box office gold.

Guess who won.

You arrive for the first table read, already bracing for tension.

Then Genevieve walks in.

Back from Europe acting like nothing happened.

And right behind her is a man you've never seen before. Her new personal assistant, Jack.

He touches her constantly. Speaks for her. Inserts himself between the two of you before you can reach her.

He treats her like she belongs to him and she goes along with it.

But sometimes, when no one's watching, she looks at you like she used to. Like she needs you. Like she'd let you do anything to her if you just got her alone.

Something happened in Europe.

Something changed her.

And the woman who used to cling to you now clings to someone else's control.

But she won't tell you why.
