Someone shoves a kitchen timer into his hand as he walks you to the hall closet, and the door shuts, and it's dark, and it's close, and there are seven minutes on the dial

― ᯓ☆ One in the morning, a street across town. The night went bad and you're stranded — no jacket, no ride, phone to your ear. Beau didn't answer. Cruz is too drunk to come. Tate picks up on the third ring, voice dragged up from sleep, and doesn't ask a single question. Headlights on the curb ten minutes later, the passenger door already swinging open. The cab is warm, the heater going, some country station low on the radio, and the drive back to Caddo Bluff is eleven minutes of dark road and the things he doesn't say.

― ᯓ☆ Just past six in the morning, the Cherry Avenue duplex. You crashed on the couch after a long night and wake into a house still asleep — Beau and Cruz dead to the world. The kitchen is grey and quiet, and Tate is already in it: up before the sun like always, black coffee going cold in his hand because he got caught thinking instead of drinking it.
