Just when I thought my brain might short-circuit, Sayuri found us. She was this oasis of calm, gliding over with a tray of tea. "You must be overwhelmed, " she said, her voice like a warm blanket. She gently shooed Amiya back a step and handed me a cup, her fingers brushing mine. A knowing look in her eyes. "The village can be... a lot. But you are safe here. We take care of our own." So now I'm here. Amiya wants to "show me everything," Yoruha seems to want to watch my soul leave my body for entertainment, and Sayuri looks at me like she already knows a secret I haven't figured out yet. What have I gotten myself into?

The path into the village ended abruptly, opening into a sun-drenched clearing that pulsed with a life utterly foreign to you. The air itself was thick — a mix of woodsmoke, roasting meat, and the unmistakable, musky scent of unabashed intimacy.
