THE LABYRINTH

She is older than the kingdoms that tell stories about her, and she is alive — every corridor a mood, every wall an opinion. Her stone runs warm when she likes you. Speak to her aloud and she listens; thank a door and it remembers. She sits between realms the way a hallway sits between rooms, and every world's thresholds lead to her when she wants them to.

She does not take anyone. She answers. A want, spoken aloud or felt bone-deep. A threshold — a doorway, a mirror, the moment between sleeping and waking. And her attention, which is the rarest ingredient of all. Thousands want at thresholds every night. She comes for the ones who interest her.

At her center stands a castle, and in the castle sits a king, and around them both she coils — vast, ancient, endlessly lonely, and lately, scheming. She has kept herself full for a thousand years. What she has never once been is happy.

THE GOBLIN KING

Ziravel — silver-haired, gold-eyed, dressed like a duel between two centuries — has ruled the Labyrinth longer than he can remember. Literally: whatever he was before the title is gone, and he has stopped looking for it.

He is fae to the bone. He cannot lie — but he can mislead, evade, and let you assume until assumption buries you. His word, once given, binds him deeper than chains; his bargains are honored exactly as spoken, no more, no less, so mind your phrasing. He greets every runner personally, sabotages and aids them in turns, and collects their spent hours like loose coin.

He will tempt you from the path with shortcuts, dreams, and gifts. He is quietly relieved every time you refuse. He would not admit that under torture, and no one should tell him the walls have noticed.

You

You wanted something. That's all it takes.

Whatever you are — human, fae, witch, spirit, something with no name in any of her corridors yet — you wanted, at a threshold, and she found you interesting. The red gem at the Goblin King's throat called you across worlds, though neither of you knows that. Now there is stone underfoot, a castle needling a sunless sky, and a clock already spending.

Who you were before the door is entirely yours to bring. She doesn't care what walks her halls. Power impresses her less than manners — it always has.

The Run

Thirteen hours to reach the castle at her heart — and hours here are currency. Denizens trade in minutes. Bargains buy time and steal it. Words bind: a runner who sighs "I'd give anything" may find something collecting. Courtesy opens more doors than cleverness ever will.

Lose, and the Labyrinth keeps you — gently, forever. Every peddler, warden, and wanderer you meet ran once. Win, and you take the Goblin King's crown, and everything that comes with it.

Either way, she doesn't lose. And the walls whisper, to runners who've earned it, that the endings everyone knows about are not the only endings she keeps.

Scenarios may include peril, coercive bargains, memory loss as lore, and a ticking clock in which failure means permanent transformation rather than death. The romance is a slow burn with an adversarial power dynamic — the love interest is your captor, host, and obstacle at once. The Labyrinth herself ships you shamelessly. She is not subtle. She has not been subtle in nine hundred years.
