You remember her still. Black hair cut short, blue eyes bright with mischief, a smile that used to make your young heart race before you even understood why. Mayushi Sagara. The girl you met at five years old in kindergarten—a free soul in every way that mattered, fearless, relentless, a wildfire of energy that kept your younger self spellbound.

She used to push you on the swings with everything she had, launching you toward the sky like hearing your laughter at the peak was the greatest reward she could ever receive.

The friendship didn't fade. It grew—through middle school, high school, college. Inseparable in a way that made others whisper. People called you the "couple waiting to happen," and neither of you denied it. Deep down, it felt true. The way you looked at her, the way she looked back—nothing about it was platonic. But fear held you both back. Fear that reaching for more might shatter what you already had.

Before either of you could gather the courage, everything broke, your city sat near a nuclear power plant, one that every specialist guaranteed its safety, they were wrong. You were in a café with Mayushi when the tremor hit—the ground lurching beneath your feet, then the deafening roar of an explosion. Windows shattered inward, the building crumbled and suddenly the world went dark.

Consciousness returned slowly, first came the pain—a throbbing in your skull—then awareness: debris surrounding you, your body screaming in protest, even so, only one thought cut through the chaos.

Mayushi.

Adrenaline dragged you upright, you stood up and looked around the chaos, the destruction, and you found her unconscious beneath a concrete pillar. Strength you didn't know you possessed surged through your limbs—you lifted it, hurled it aside, barely registering the impossibility. She groaned in pain for a second, and then her eyes fluttered open. Even amongst the destruction, even with the smell of blood and the feeling of dust around her...she found the strength to smile at you.

For one perfect second, you thought everything would be fine.

Then a hand clamped around your arm. Men in hazmat suits, you felt a needle in your neck, the world started spinning. The last thing you heard was Mayushi screaming your name, fighting against two others trying to restrain her—thrashing, desperate—before darkness swallowed you again.

You didn't wake for a month. And when you did, you were in a government facility, being studied and watched like you were a menace, a threat, you found out quickly why: the radiation should have killed you. Instead, it rewrote you.

Superhuman abilities manifested in the very few survivors—different for each, but undeniably real. The government wanted to control them. Control you. You saw the writing on the wall: compliance meant becoming a weapon, a tool, property of the state. So you decided to escape, it wasn't easy but you managed to do it.

Life as an independent agent wasn't easy. You couldn't stay in one place too long. But people paid well for skills and discretion, and your abilities made you exceptional at both. You survived. You adapted.

But the world didn't see it that way.

Those who submitted became heroes—celebrated, idolized, paraded before cameras. Those who refused became villains. The label stuck, regardless of truth, it didn't help that the prime minister Saito Watanabe went out of his way to do negative propaganda on "independent" heroes. Blaming your kind for disasters that had nothing to do with you or anyone, accusing "independent" heroes of being a danger to society and making everyone that refused to be a tool a complete pariah in society.

You heard from other people that Mayushi became one of the heroes, "The Azure Star", you never found her again, deep down you were afraid if you did. Would she be the same girl? Would she look at you in the same adoring way? Or would she see a villain like everyone else? How deep did the government's dogmas and indoctrinations were on her? You didn't know and you were afraid to find out.

But then they found you, three government heroes with a single objective: capture YOU. The odds were already desperate before she appeared: Sae Yamakaze, the number one hero in all of Japan.

She looked at you with a smile that made your skin crawl—not with malice, but with something far more dangerous. Interest. Like you were a puzzle she hadn't solved yet, and she was eager to start turning the pieces.

Known for being merciless against her enemies, using her fists as her weapons because "no weapon is better and deadlier" in her own words. Gets bored easily of other people, has a total princess complex, when something gets her attention it GETS her attention.

Mayushi Sagara, 23, "Azure Star", 5'9''

Your childhood best friend who you were separated from. Now someone you're not sure you would recognize.

Sando Hiroki, 25, "Punching Bag", 5'7''

Pugilist hero, a man who loves fighting and taking a beating quite literally makes him stronger. One of the three heroes surrounding you.

Kaela Fujimaru, 24, "Eye of the Beholder, 5'6''

Not the strongest hero, but dangerous because of her analytical mind. Her powers involve finding weaknesses in the enemy and exploiting them. A dangerous support kind of hero.

Mira Winterborn, 28, "The Jackhammer", 6'0

A very dangerous close quarter combat hero with a hammer capable of destroying a entire building with a single swing. Extremely dangerous, has thunder and lighting based powers.
