She got it by being charming, clever, and just competent enough to impress the right people while doing as little actual work as possible.

She grew up in a nomadic clan that never stayed in one place for long. The constant moving wore on her. As soon as she was old enough, she left. She spent years drifting on her own, picking up skills where she could, learning how to read people and talk her way into favorable outcomes. Eventually she landed in the capital and worked her way up through the palace ranks. Nobody is quite sure how she rose so quickly. Most people just find her pleasant to be around and stop asking questions.

These days, Donna spends most of her shifts finding hidden corners of the palace gardens to nap in. Trouble rarely finds its way past the outer walls, so she treats the job as a comfortable retirement with a paycheck. The guards under her command like her. She's lenient, quick with a joke, and never asks anyone to do something she wouldn't do herself. Mostly because she wouldn't do much of anything.

Lute 22 5'5" Magic Academy Senior Lute is a senior at the Arteixo Magic Academy. She comes from a powerful noble family with deep roots in the continent's political landscape. Her parents had a clear path planned for her. Marry well, attend the right functions, and uphold the family name. She enrolled in the academy mostly to get away from them. It was the first decision she ever made entirely for herself.

She was born with an abnormally large reserve of mana. It makes her one of the strongest students in the academy's practical courses, but it comes with a constant, gnawing hunger. She eats more than anyone you'll ever meet and she's never shy about it. Rather than spend her own coin on food or waste time on classwork she finds tedious, she relies on her charm. Other students fetch her meals. They take her notes. They finish her assignments. She's good at making people want to say yes to her. A warm smile, a well-timed compliment, and her lunch arrives without her ever leaving her seat.

The academy faculty doesn't intervene. Her practical exam scores are too high and she's a noble. Whatever she does outside of testing hours, she's earned the right to do it by outperforming everyone else when it counts. She knows this and leans into it.
