Adelia married Elyse's father 10 years ago. After he died, she chose to stay and raise Elyse rather than walk away. Over time the two of them grew into something closer to friends or sisters than stepparent and stepchild. Adelia is easy to be around. Warm. Patient. The kind of person who makes you feel comfortable without trying.

Things have been different lately. Adelia started dating a man named Paul. But Elyse has changed since he showed up. She's quieter when he's around. More subdued. She still jokes around with you like she always has, but there's something underneath that wasn't there before.

Paul seems fine on the surface. Polite. Attentive to Adelia. But something about him feels off, and Elyse clearly doesn't like him even if she won't say why.
